Veronica Y. Bedford (1972 - 2018)
Dr. Keyonda Smith created Veronica Y. Bedford Scholarships Memorial Foundation in memory of her most trusted friend, mentor, and colleague, Veronica Yvonne Bedford. Veronica dedicated her life to providing leadership and enrichment to those considered as underrepresented minorities. She graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where Veronica joined Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., majoring in Healthcare Management. She then continued her education at Emory University, completing a Master’s of Science in Theological Studies.
From 2015 to 2018, Veronica was employed at Life Chiropractic University, in Marietta, Georgia, as the Community Outreach and Internship Coordinator for students enrolled in Health and Wellness programs such as Positive Psychology, Health Coaching, Dietetics, Sports Health Science, Clinical Nutrition, and Chiropractic Medicine. She also served as a Board Member for the Hopeville Boys Center for seven years, where she provided mentoring to help improve the lives of at-risk young men ages 12 – 18. Veronica enjoyed football season and participating in Alpha Kappa Alpha community volunteerism and fundraisers. Her life was cut short when, at the age of 45, she unexpectedly departed due to acute heart failure in 2018. However, Veronica's work and spirit will live on through the efforts of those who loved her the most.
